Safe things to check first
Worth a look before you call — sometimes it saves you the visit.
- 1Pull the filter and hold it to a light. If you cannot see through it, change it and see if airflow improves.
- 2Check the thermostat: fresh batteries, set to COOL or HEAT, fan on AUTO, and the setpoint actually below or above room temperature.
- 3Look at the breaker panel for a tripped breaker on the air handler or outdoor unit. If it trips again after resetting once, stop and call us.
- 4Walk the outdoor unit and clear grass, leaves, pine straw and anything stacked within a couple of feet of the cabinet.

How often should I have maintenance done?
Twice a year suits most homes in this region: cooling in spring, heating in fall. If you run a heat pump that works nearly year round, two visits are the practical minimum because the same outdoor unit carries both seasons of runtime.
What actually happens during an AC tune-up?
We wash the outdoor coil, clear the condensate drain, check refrigerant performance against manufacturer targets, test capacitors and contactors, read motor amp draw, tighten electrical connections, inspect the blower and confirm the thermostat cycles the system correctly.
Is a furnace tune-up different?
Yes. Heating work focuses on the burners, ignition, flame sensor, heat exchanger condition, venting and safety controls, plus blower and airflow checks. On electric systems we test heat strips and sequencers instead of burners.
My system works fine. Is maintenance worth it?
Most failures we get called out for were visible months earlier as a weak capacitor, a slimy drain or a filthy coil. Maintenance is mostly about catching those cheap parts before they take out a compressor on a hot afternoon.
Will maintenance help my dust and humidity problems?
Often, yes. Clean coils and correct airflow let the system remove moisture the way it was designed to, and we check filter fit and return leaks that pull attic dust into the air you breathe.
