What Electric Furnace Repair Involves
An electric furnace makes heat by pushing air across resistance heating elements, so a repair usually comes down to finding which part of that chain quit. We test for power at the unit, check the sequencers that bring each heat strip on in stages, look at the limit switches and the blower motor, and confirm the thermostat is actually calling for heat. High-voltage work stays with us. Many homes in the region run heat strips as backup to a heat pump, so we check how the two are working together too.
What We Check and Replace
Heating elements burn open, sequencers stick, contactors pit, and limit switches trip on restricted airflow. We check each of those, plus wiring connections that have loosened from years of heating and cooling cycles. Airflow gets attention as well, since a clogged filter or crushed duct will overheat a furnace and shut it down on limit. If a heat strip is done, we replace it and verify amp draw across each stage so the unit is not pulling more than the wiring and breaker were sized for.
How We Decide Repair Is the Right Call
We look at the age of the air handler, the condition of the blower and cabinet, and how much of the heating side has already been replaced. Swapping one element in an otherwise sound system is straightforward heating repair and we get on with it. If the blower motor, coil and elements are all failing at once, we say so and lay out what a replacement would involve. Either way you get the findings first and make the decision yourself. No surprise work.

Why does my electric furnace trip the breaker?
Usually a shorted heating element, a failed sequencer holding stages on at once, or a weak breaker. It can also be a blower drawing high amps. This is high-voltage work, so let us test it rather than resetting repeatedly.
My heat pump runs but the house stays cold. Is that the electric heat?
Often yes. Heat strips back up the heat pump on cold mornings, and a burned-out element means the system never catches up. We test each stage and the control that calls for it.
Is a burning smell from electric heat normal?
A faint dusty smell the first run of the season is common. A sharp or persistent burning smell is not. Shut the system off at the thermostat and breaker and call us to inspect it.
